Object description
The rod puppet of a young woman with light-coloured skin and black hair tied in a bun. The puppet is wearing a long pink dress with colourful striped long sleeves and a green waistcoat over it, which is closed with a long colourful striped bow. This is the Korean national dress, the hanbok (한복). She wears a red dot on her cheeks and forehead, which identifies the woman as a bride. The character of the bride is part of many folk stories and performances. (14.05.2025, LS)
Object history
The figure is wearing a hanbok (한복), therefore a regional association with the Korean states is likely, but cannot be proven. It is not certain which of the Korean states the figure originates from - the Republic of Korea or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. If you know anything about the origin or staging context of the object or have any comments, we would be pleased to receive your feedback via our contact form with the subject ‘Comments and questions about the collection’ ( 14.05.2025, EF)
