Object description
The puppet of a green Chinese dragon. The head and end of the tail are carved from solid wood and painted in colour. They each have a firmly attached guide rod on the underside. The elongated body is formed by a painted tube made of fabric. The four legs of the dragon are attached to it. The dragon is similar in construction and appearance to the dragon dance dolls, which are typical of Chinese New Year festivities. The soft body makes it easy to perform the typical slithering movements. (14.05.2025, LS)

Object history
Dragon puppets led by two (or more) rods are typical of Chinese New Year celebrations. However, it is currently impossible to determine whether the puppet has its origin in this tradition. If you know anything about the origin or staging context of the object or have any comments, we would be pleased to receive your feedback via our contact form under the subject “Comments and questions about the collection”.
