Object description
It is a Bacigapulos barrel organ, as can be seen from the lettering “Bacigalupo Söhne Berlin Schönhauser Allee 74 a” on the front. The organ is painted in a beige color with various decorations and pictures. These include flower tendrils, landscapes and a sailing ship on water. The Bacigalupo family emigrated from Italy to Germany. In their workshop in Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin, they produced mechanical musical instruments for many decades. The family is one of the most famous dynasties for barrel organs. Giovanni Battista Bacigalupo is considered the founder. Giacomo Giovanni Bacigalupo moved to Schönhauser Allee 74a in 1912. He ran the company here until 1975. (16.05.2025, MP)
