Devil with blue horns
Karl Römer
CloseThe few sources in the KOLK 17 archive reveal that Karl Römer came from a family of puppeteers in Breslau. His great-grandfather had founded a puppet theatre there around 1860 and expanded it with small animal dressages. In 1945, the family left Breslau and settled in Sonthofen in the Allgäu region. Short newspaper articles and a booklet with letters of recommendation attest to their activities as travelling puppeteers in the post-war period until around 1960, initially in Baden-Württemberg and later more in North Rhine-Westphalia. The dressage with six white mice is particularly emphasised. Karl Römer played together with his wife Helene and their children Bärbel and Karlmann.
